PDPS Seeks Public’s Assistance in Identifying Driver Following Hit and Run
The Portage Department of Public Safety (PDPS) is requesting assistance in identifying a suspect involved in a non-fatal hit and run of a bicyclist. On February 17, 2025, at approximately 10:40 p.m., Portage Police and Fire personnel responded to the area of Lovers Lane near Stryker Way on a report of a bicyclist who had been struck by a vehicle. Upon arrival, Fire and EMS personnel immediately rendered emergency aid to the victim who was subsequently transported to Bronson Hospital.
Investigators determined the cyclist was traversing southbound on Lovers Lane when he was struck from behind by a southbound vehicle which then fled the scene. Based on evidence recovered from the crash site, the vehicle involved is believed to be a 2016 - 2024 Mazda CX5 or CX9, black in color. The victim, a 47-year-old Portage man, remains hospitalized in stable condition.
